Soaking Parsley Seeds

29 Jul

I had some curly leaf parsley seeds and tried an experiment. I soaked half the seeds in water overnight. On the same day (June 11), I planted the soaked seeds in one container, and the un-soaked seeds in another container. The picture above shows the results as of July 21, where on the left are the soaked seeds and on the right are the un-soaked seeds. On July 28, I saw some small green buds emerging from the un-soaked container. The seedlings from the soaked container have already been transplanted into my garden.

Pai

18 Jul

Pai is a popular Thai restaurant in Toronto. I visited the one on Duncan street. There was a very long line up to enter. There can be long wait times for a table, despite the restaurant being quite large and able to sit many tables. I was not in a hurry and while waiting for my table at Pai, I enjoyed a refreshing beer in the patio of the pub next door. The pub was having happy hour so my beer was a good price.

At Pai, I had the pad Thai with chicken at no spice. It was so yummy. All the flavours tasted real and authentic.

The service I experienced was also excellent.

Pictured above is my very delicious pad Thai. I especially liked the side of cabbage that accompanied the dish as it added a really nice crisp crunchy texture to every bite of my pad Thai noodles.

Pictured above is the Panang curry (vegan). On the right of the photo is a side of rice it comes with. I like the cute presentation of the rice wrapped by green leaves and secured by a toothpick.

Beet Smoothie

17 Jul
  • one beet, include the beet tops if they are available
  • 1 ripe banana, peel and quarter
  • 3 to 4 ripe strawberries, cut in half and freeze for a couple of hours
  • skim milk or milk substitute (soy, almond, coconut, etc.)
  • optional, a few basil leaves

Thoroughly wash fruits and veggies. In a blender, add the beet and its top, banana, strawberries (basil) and milk. For added nutrition, add a scoop of flax seed, chia sets, oats, hemp hearts, etc. if you wish. Blend until smooth (around 30 seconds). Enjoy! I like to have this beet smoothie for breakfast.

Pictured above are cylindrical beets from my garden.

Basil from my garden. I grew these from seeds that I started in February.
